Apple Valley Alpacas was established in 2004, located on 50 beautiful acres in
south, central Pennsylvania. Nestled among the Allegheny mountains, it is conveniently located in the tri-state areas
of Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The rolling topography, green fields and moderate climate were ideal for farming.
Many years ago the land had been an apple orchard, like much of the land in the general area. After
researching many different types of home-based businesses and visiting several alpaca farms, Susan and Larry Burkins decided
that alpaca farming was the perfect venture for this semi-retired couple.
Beginning with 5 females, the plan was to remain small and selective. Since the beginning each
animal has been carefully nurtured, with gentle, hands on care. As a result the animals are calm, accustomed to being handled
without the use of a chute.
Current services include alpaca sales, stud service and fiber/yarn products.
